Congratulations to the John Marshall Archery Team. The team placed third at the Buckhannon-Upshur tournament recently. Shelby Howard placed fourth, and Haley Davolio placed fifth at this state-qualifying competition. Howard is no stranger to winning. Last year she placed first in the West Virginia State Archery Championship and prior to this win at Buckhannon-Upshur, she finished third in the Elview tournament. "Elkview was the first and biggest tournament this season, and we did pretty well under the pressure," said Howard.
Shelby is not the only team member excited about this season. Her father, Coach Russ Howard, is an integral part of the team which practices anywhere from one to three days a week to prepare for the tournaments and is happy with the team's progress. Many members have been avidly dedicated to the sport since middle school, and the team's cohesiveness is evident in their well-deserved success. Junior Megan Pulver said, "My favorite part of archery is the fact that we're all individuals who have to do our best to make it as a team. We have to work together to win tournaments and qualify for states, but we don't compete one-on-one."
