It has been said that life imitates art and local writer, Susan Jones, demonstrates that sentiment as she recalls lessons learned in the music classroom, where what was presented not only enriched her life musically, but laid the foundation for daily living.

The book, If You’re Going to Make a Mistake, Make a Daggone Good One and Recover, was titled from a quote frequently used by former John Marshall High School band director, Ron Rose, to whom the book is dedicated. It contains twenty music/life lesson quotes from 15 different music teachers including local teachers Ron Rose, former Moundsville Junior High School band director Harry Parshall and Marshall County elementary school band director Harry Sacco. Other sources of quotes include the music teachers from Nashville’s Stamps-Baxter School of Music and Jones’ early private teachers.

Adding further to the 40-page booklet are caricatures that accompany each quote. The artist working with Jones, “Tako X,” works for a Brazilian magazine similar to Mad Magazine and styles his caricatures accordingly.

The Chapbook will be on sale during this Friday’s football game when John Marshall hosts Wheeling Park at Monarch Stadium.  Portions of the sales at the game will be donated to the John Marshall High School Band.
