John Marshall High School senior Austin Williams has earned a spot among the distinguished National Merit Scholarship Finalists as a result of his combined scores in critical reading, mathematics and writing on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. 

Williams is an AP Scholar who is enrolled in the Project Lead the Way Engineering Pathway. According to his teachers, Williams always adds complexity to each of his projects and is an excellent designer. He will attend West Virginia University to major in Civil Engineering.

Approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarship winners, narrowed down from the 15,000 Finalist, will be notified of scholarship offers beginning in March. Four major Merit Scholar designees will be announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in April, May, June and July.

National Merit Scholarship Finalists represent less than one percent of United States high school seniors.
