Students who placed 1st through 4th at the Marshall County Schools Math Field Day in January advanced to the Regional Math Field Day held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Wheeling Park High School.
Students in 4th through 12th grades competed in several different math activities. Contestants in grades 4th through 9th who earned the top three places in their age group move on the West Virginia State Math Field Day at Fairmont State University on Saturday, April 27, 2019. The top 10 students who are sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school will also participate at the state competition.
The JM Math Day team (10th – 12th grade) placed first overall in the high school division. The Monarchs competed against teams from Brooke County and Ohio County.
Glen Dale Elementary 4th grader Sophie Cunningham (3rd place), John Marshall High School 9th graders Nate Flowers (2nd place) and Fred Carroll (3rd place) and JMHS students Cullen Wise (2nd place), Emily Anderson (6th place) and Hayden Thomas (7th place) are invited to the state match.
MMS 6th grader Maverick LeMasters along with JMHS students Josilee Scott, Jackson Thomas and Zara Zervos are alternates for the state event.
