Two musicians from the Marshall County Strings Program were accepted to attend the West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts this summer on the campus of Marshall University.

Sofiah Bozenske and Lauren Rice completed a pre-screening audition as well as a live interview and audition as part of the application process. Governor’s School for the Arts is three-week program opened to current sophomores who write, dance, sing, play an instrument, act or draw/paint. Sofiah (violin) and Lauren (cello) will attend for the instrumental music discipline.

According to the Governor’s School website, the program is kept small so that each student receives a lot of individual attention not only from the primary teacher but other adjunct staff members as well. It is not a “music camp.” The artist-community concept is stressed. Students are immersed in experiences that push them to the point that they are truly changed during their three weeks at Governor’s School.
