John Marshall High School’s Steel Drum Band, under the direction of Tracey Filben, has been selected to play at the upcoming West Virginia Music Educators Association Conference in Charleston.

In the Mountain State, John Marshall was one of the top three schools chosen to perform for the X-Honor Ensemble, an accolade that recognizes non-traditional groups. Since the X- Honor Ensemble’s inception in 2016, the JM Steel Drum Band has been selected for this honor four times. Groups are only eligible every other year, if they are selected.

The 14-piece Steel Drum Band’s performance will take place on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Charleston Civic Center. Tunes from many different genres will be played on the steel pans. Some of the selections include Chasing Shadows (Don’t Look Back), Nightwatch and It’s Too Late.
