Student-Grown Flowers for Sale at Four Marshall County Schools
Students at Cameron High School, John Marshall High School, Moundsville Middle School and Sherrard Middle School are preparing to sell hanging baskets, vegetable plants, herbs and a variety of flowers they grew in their school’s greenhouse.
At each school in late January students began germinating seeds for tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, lettuce, cabbage and herbs. Then at the end of February plugs were purchased and transplanted for various types of other flowers. Students ensured the proper temperature and humidity were maintained in their greenhouse and monitored the vegetation’s growth daily.
Beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, Cameron High School’s greenhouse will be open for business. Students in the Greenhouse Management class and Horticulture class will sell their assortment of plants every weekday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm and each Saturday from 9:00 am until noon.
The John Marshall High School Greenhouse’s grand opening is also Monday, May 1, 2023. Business hours will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm and will feature projects from students in the Greenhouse Technology class.
