John Marshall High School’s Steel Drum Band, under the direction of Tracey Filben, has been selected to play at the upcoming 79th annual West Virginia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference.

In the Mountain State, John Marshall was the top high school chosen to perform for the X-Honor Ensemble, an accolade that recognizes non-traditional groups. Since the X- Honor Ensemble’s inception in 2016, the JM Steel Drum Band has been selected for this honor five times. Groups are only eligible every other year, if they are selected.

The Steel Drum Band’s performance will take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 11:30 am, at the Charleston Civic Center in the Little Theater. Tunes from many different genres will be played on the steel pans. Some of the selections include The Bee’s Melody, Viva La Vida and Fire Down Below.
