Information on the application process
It has been my privilege, as a United States Senator, to nomiate standout West Virginia students for appointment consideration by our nation's military service academies.  For almost 30 years, I have been truly inspired by the caliber of applicants representing West Virginia.

This year, for the last time, I will be nominating student to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD; the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY; the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO; and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY.

My nominations for the service academies will be based on a variety of criteria that the academies have identified as important factors for success including:  ACT and/or SAT scores; leadership ability and academic achievement.  Those applying must be legal residents of West Virginia and a United States citizen.  For each opening to an individual academy, I will nominate up to 10 students with final selection made by the individual academies for appointment offers.

Any interested student should write to my Charleston office to begin the process.  At that time, I will advise what must be submitted before he or she may be considered for a nomination.  All required items must be received in my office prior to November 1, 2014.  Please direct correspondence to:
